On April 28th, 2019, a commendation conference as a celebration for the “May 1st” International Labor Day was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The advanced collectives and advanced individuals who won the National and Sichuan Provincial May 1st Labor Award, the May 1st Labor Medal, and the Worker Pioneer were awarded medals, certificates and decorations. The School of Civil Engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University won the honor of “Sichuan Provincial May 1st Labor Award”.
The discipline construction of the School of Civil Engineering has achieved remarkable results, and the civil engineering ranks A- in the fourth round of disciplinary assessment. At present, the School has a total of more than 30 high-level talents such as double employed academicians, Chang Jiang scholars and distinguished young scholars achieving full coverage of high-level talents in the secondary disciplines, and it has reformed the talent training management model, for the first time, realizing the integrated management of undergraduates, masters, doctors and international students and the construction of 10 national quality courses in total. The Civil Engineering College has won the first prize of the National College Student Structure Design Competition for three consecutive years.
The School of Civil Engineering continues to make achievements in scientific researches. With an annual research funding of 100 million, we have led 2 new key special projects of the national key R&D program, 1 national key R&D plan project, and participated in 10 key special projects of the national key R&D plan. The School has recently managed 4 high-speed rail joint fund projects, 90 national natural fund projects, 189 other provincial and ministerial-level projects, and 512 horizontal projects. We have published more than 900 EI papers, 425 SCI papers, and 299 granted patents, including 131 invention patents and 168 utility model patents. In the past three years, the Civil Engineering College has won 74 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological awards, including 1 national first-prize for scientific and technological progress, 5 national second-prizes for scientific and technological progress, and 1 national second-prize for technology invention. In addition, we won the 2018 Engineering Award and 2018 Technology Innovation Project Award of International Tunnel Association (ITA) honored as the Oscars in the field of tunnel engineering worldwide.
The School of Civil Engineering has successfully been approved to set upthe Joint Research Center of China-Indonesia High Speed Rail Technology , a Science and Technology Assistance Project for the Developing Countries, and has undertaken the wind tunnel test and research work of the world''s largest span suspension bridge, the Cana Galai Bridge (Turkey). Many of our disciplines have got deeply involved in the “super project” of the state construction –the Sichuan-Tibet Railway Project, greatly promoting the development of discipline construction.
Guided by Party building, the School of Civil Engineering focuses on the construction of trade unions and faculty''s home to gather the teachers and students together in the whole school and comprehensively promotes the “first-class” model reform. We have achieved great success in building up relations between the Party and the masses, and have won national honors, the “Double Creation” benchmarking department of the national colleges and universities, the first batch of pilot units of “Three-wide education” comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Education, and the title of “Model Teachers'' Home” of National Federation of Trade Unions.
