Department of Architectural Engineering
Architectural Engineering (Structural Engineering) is a basic applied discipline in the field of civil engineering. In response to the needs for railway development, SWJTU spearheaded undergraduate programmes of industrial and civil construction in 1956 and has cultivated a pool of talents in railway industry in the past 60 years.
Since 1978, staff members of the Department of Architectural Engineering carried out a long-term systematic research in several orientations such as mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete basic components, anti-seismic theories of structure and design of steel reinforced concrete composite structure, and got involved in the compiling of Code for Design of Concrete Structures and Regulations for Design of Steel Reinforced Concrete Composite Structures, defining the academic role of the discipline of architectural engineering in formulating China’s construction standards and regulations.
The Department was approved to award master’s degree in 1986 and doctoral degree in 2000. Currently, it has 6 professors, 15 associate professors and 12 lecturers, of which 26 are doctoral degree holders. So far, it has trained a great number of prominent undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students.
Based on the actual situation of engineering construction projects, the discipline of architectural engineering has been expanded to cover four main research orientations: structural impact and protection, BIM and intelligent building, structural wind engineering and seismic resistance and disaster prevention of structures, of which the first three have a great influence in the academia at home and abroad.
In the last 5 years, the Department of Architectural Engineering has reaped remarkable achievements in research, undertaking over 30 research projects at national, provincial or ministerial level, directing or participating in the compiling of over 10 engineering technical standards, publishing nearly 200 influential articles with over 80 covered by SCI and EI and more than 10 monographs and textbooks, winning 6 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, such us the first prize of Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by China Railway Society.
