1. Overview

Adhering to the tradition of “One-hundred-year development in civil engineering brews wisdom and great minds”, the Center for Continuing Education, SCE, along with the speed acceleration of existing railway lines and large-scale high-speed railway construction in China, has carried out systematic trainings of high-speed rail construction and maintenance skills. Now we have a high-quality teaching staff, and develop well in experimental researches, field practice and training facilities. The training of high-speed railway construction technology as well as its operation and maintenance is highly recognized by the China Railway Corporation, taking the lead in China.

In recent years, the Center for Continuing Education and the training base of high-speed railway works have actively carried out trainings for helping high-speed railway technology and talents go international. We have jointly cultivated a large number of technological talents in cooperation with the talent center and the public works department of the bureau of transportation under the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., the China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd., the China Railway Chengdu Group Co., Ltd., the China Railway Taiyuan Group Co., Ltd., the China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd., the China Railway Hohhot Group Co., Ltd., the China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company, the China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd., the Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co., Ltd., the Sinoydro Bureau 10 Co., Ltd., Department of Transportation of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Department, Sichuan Provincial Audit Department, and the operation, management and construction departments related to railway of Chengdu city, as well as the relevant departments of Sichuan province.

According to the needs of the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and other cooperating units, the Center for Continuing Education has developed training syllabus of all levels for students pursuing Master of Engineering, continuing education, and vocational trainings. We have also developed a variety of classic training programs including adaptability training for technical experts of high-speed railway public works and engineering, full-time job qualification training of maintenance technology of high-speed railway lines and roads and bridges, continuous training for outstanding university graduates of railway engineering, railway construction project management, chief engineers class of China Railway Construction Corporation in related fields such as railway works maintenance management, railway construction engineering, and urban rail transit, all of which yield positive results.

In order to expand the international influence of the university and keep up with the national strategy of high-speed railway technology export, the Center for Continuing Education has set up special training courses for high-speed railway management technicians from Taiwan Province of China, and railway management technicians from Ethiopia, Kenya, Iraq and other countries. During the training for international exchanges, according to the needs of participants at all levels, theory trainings combined with engineering practice are adopted, which includes the systematic introduction of China's high-speed railway system integration technology and the theoretical system of public works maintenance management technology, as well as the extensive and in-depth discussions on the key technical issues in the construction and maintenance of rail transit.

2. Highlights on professional advantages and development of training for technological and management personnel at all levels

1) Civil engineering construction technology, repair and maintenance technology, experiment and testing technology, disaster prevention and reduction, identification and reinforcement, risk assessment, accident analysis and treatment, application of new building materials, project management, safety management and other specific technological trainings;

“4+1” professional training class: It is designed for full-time undergraduate students majoring in civil engineering who have worked on the job for less than 3 years. The training lasts for 1 year. It aims to consolidate participants’ professional theoretical knowledge and upgrade their professional technical level comprehensively through the updating of knowledge. At the same time the participants are expected to understand the latest development of advanced technology, new equipment and new technique, broaden their horizon, and then become the potential top talents who can contribute to the development of enterprises.
