1. Objectives
In response to needs of socialist modernization, SWJTU provides the programme of Road, Bridge and River-crossing Engineering to develop high-level professionals with basic theories and extensive knowledge in road and bridge engineering, practical abilities, innovation consciousness and research capabilities. Graduates can engage in the planning, surveying, design, construction, management, maintenance and repair relevant to transport, road and highway, bridge and general civil engineering in the departments of traffic control and management, design and construction. They also can work as lecturers and researchers in junior colleges or research institutes.
2. Basic Requirements
Students mainly learn about structural design, construction and management of road and urban road engineering. They should acquire following knowledge and abilities: (1) basic theories in natural science and technical science necessary for further professional learning; (2) certain professional knowledge and relevant knowledge in engineering technology, technical economy and engineering management; (3) necessary skills like measurement, mapping, testing, experiment, computer applications and other basic skills; (4) strong abilities to self-study, analyze and solve practical problems; (5) abilities to carry out feasibility studies, surveying and design of road, urban roads and bridges; (6) basic knowledge about engineering economics, construction management, repair and maintenance and research methods.
