Teachers of the Bridge Engineering Department Participated in the “Enlarged Meeting of the First Editorial Committee on Bridge Engineering ofChina Journal of Highway and Transport”and “The Sixth Forum of Architectural Science and Engineering Innovation”

On October 30, 2020, Professor Zhang Qinghua, Deputy Director of Bridge Engineering Department of Southwest Jiaotong University, editorial board member ofChina Journal of Highway and Transport,Gou Hongye, Vice President of the School of Civil Engineering, youth editorial board member ofChina Journal of Highway and Transportand Dr. Zhang Rui, a teacher of Bridge Engineering Department, were invited to attend the “Enlarged Meeting of the First Editorial Committee on Bridge Engineering” held by the editorial department ofChina Journal of Highway and Transport. The meeting was presided over by He Shuanhai, Vice President of Chang''an University.

At the beginning of the meeting, Liu Wenjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of China Highway & Transportation Society, delivered a speech, reviewing the outstanding contributions made byChina Journal of Highway and Transportin promoting the technological progress of bridge engineering in China, and looking forward to its new contributions to China’s progress in transportation construction. He Shuanhai, Vice President of Chang''an University, announced the journal’s list of youth editorial board members on bridge engineering. Vice Chairman Liu Wenjie and Vice President He Shuanhai awarded the appointment letter of youth editorial board to Professor Gou Hongye from the School of Civil Engineering, SWJTU.

Afterwards, Wang Lei, director of the editorial department ofChina Journal of Highway and Transport, made a work report, introducing the development process of the journal since its inception, its current status, and its academic and industrial influence. The editorial board members on bridge engineering, special editors, youth editorial board members and academic research review experts in bridge engineering present at the meeting deliberated on the drafting and revision of “Bridge Engineering Academic Research Review · 2021” and put forward specific opinions and suggestions. There were also discussions on the planning of the special edition featuring bridge engineering. At the end, Sun Shouzeng, director of the strategic steering committee of academic journal development of Chang''an University, made a summary speech.

After the enlarged meeting, the faculty of our department attended “The Sixth Forum of Architectural Science and Engineering Innovation” jointly held by the department of civil engineering, water conservancy and building engineering of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese Civil Engineering Society, China Highway & Transportation Society, Engineering and Material Science Department of National Natural Science Foundation of China, editorial department ofJournal of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Chang''an University, Chongqing University and Hunan University.

The forum was themed with the development of civil engineering and marine engineering under “Belt and Road Initiative”. In line with the national strategy of "building China into a country with strong transportation network”, the forum focused on in-depth discussions over the hot issues including construction of sustainable transportation infrastructure, high-performance building structural system, fiber reinforced composite materials, the condition monitoring, disaster prevention and reduction of large-scale engineering structures, the theory and practice of geotechnical engineering, the future intelligent building of cities and towns and intelligent infrastructure as well as the offshore windpower programme,

Xu Gongyi, an adjunct professor of our university, a national expert in prospecting design, and deputy chief engineer of China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute made a report titled “Technical Breakthrough of Two Newly-built Suspension Bridges in China".
