Sharing of Academic Achievements, Creating A Bright Future—the Faculty General Meeting of Geotechnical Engineering Department

The general meeting of geotechnical engineering department was held at teaching building NO.4, Jiuli Campus on the afternoon of December 17. It was also an occasion to mark the retirement of Professor Ma Jianlin and Professor Deng Ronggui who gave their honorary academic reports on the day. Nearly 200 people, including the faculty and students of geotechnical engineering department, witnessed this touching and glorious moment. The meeting was presided over by Professor Fu Haiying, the Deputy Dean of School of Civil Engineering, who is also the Director of Geotechnical Engineering Department, and Professor Zhang Yingbin, Deputy Director of Geotechnical Engineering Department.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Professor Fu Haiying paid tribute to teachers who retired this year, expressed his heartful gratitude to them for their long-term contributions to the talent development, scientific research and social services of geotechnical engineering department, and looked forward to their continued support for the development of our department. Meanwhile, he hoped the two professors would enjoy happiness and health in their new life stage.

Professor Ma and Professor Deng gave honorary presentation entitled Post Grouting Technology of Pile Foundation—The Contribution and Development in Geotechnical Engineering for SWJTU, and Problems and Thinking of Geotechnical Engineering in Southwest Mountain Areas, respectively. With rich content and the essence of their researches, both professors’ reports were of high academic value. The faculty and students were touched by their scientific spirit and had a reflection on the research achievements. They explained profound theories in simple terms, thus pointing out the direction of future study and research for all teachers and students present at the meeting.

The department leadership reported their work in the past year and put forward the plan for the work of the coming year. Under the guidance of the department’s leadership, and by the concerted efforts of the faculty members and students, gratifying progress and remarkable achievements have been achieved.

Yuan Ran, a teacher representative of the Department, expressed her admiration for the dedication and academic achievements of the two professors over the years, as well as her gratitude to the two teachers for their inspiration. Yuan said that she would take over the baton of teaching and live up to the expectations of her predecessors. Wang Mengting and Wang Yuanyuan, current postgraduates of Professor Ma and Professor Deng, also appreciated their teachers’ instruction, and sent their best wishes.

At the ceremony, the student representatives presented flowers and souvenirs to the retired teachers, wishing joy and health be with them always. Professor Ma Jianlin expressed his gratitude to the department for organizing this ceremony. He recalled the details of getting along with the other teachers over the years, appreciated the work of his colleagues for supporting, helping him and their understanding of his work, and expressed his cherishing of the teaching life. As for Professor Deng Ronggui, he recalled the hardships of the former SWJTUers in geotechnical engineering to establish this major and hoped that young teachers and students would pass on the geotechnical spirit from generation to generation and continuously contribute to the revival of the geotechnical engineering in SWJTU.
