The sixth PPT academic speech competition of Professor Wang Niannian's team from the Department of underground engineering was held at 2:00 pm on January 15, 2022, in Room 301 of the traffic tunnel engineering experimental building, whichaimed to improve students' speech abilities and promote academic exchanges among team members. The contestants were all first-year students of the team, including both postgraduate students and doctoral students. At the same time, Mrs Yu Li, Mr. Liu Dagang, Mrs Wang Yusuo, Mr. Tong Jianjun, Mr. Yan Tao and other students of the team attended this competition as guests.

At the beginning of the competition, the hosts Luo Xiang and Wang Song introduced the guests and the rules of the competition. Then, Mr. Liu Dagang delivered a speech for the competition, during which he called for a presentation focusing on key points, as well as strict management of speech time, wishing the contestants good luck and declared the beginning of the competition.

Based on new topics of major domestic projects and academic research frontiers, this competition covers tunnel ventilation and disaster prevention, earthquake resistance, mechanical test, fire damage and so on. Most of the contestants showed good academic literacies, PPT techniques and speech abilities, which were a full demonstration of the academic research attitude of the team with diligence in thinking, innovation and academic research.

At the end of the competition, the teachers made comments on the good attitude of the contestants, and some suggestions were given on the slides’ content and reporting skills. Teachers expressed the hope of promoting students’ academic researchabilityby the competition.

The competition results showed that the outstanding winner was Yi Wenhao, while the first prize winner was Lu Ming, followed by the second prize winners Xiao Ke and Wu Quande and the third prize winners Li Zexing, Tang Yonghong, Cheng Haibing and Guo Yuxuan.

By taking a group photo, Professor Wang’s sixth academic speech competition was successfully concluded.
