The Core of Science and Technology, the Diligence of Civil Engineering—The 13th Extracurricular Science and Technology Innovation Competition for College Students and 2021 Science and Technology Month in SCE ended
2021 Science and Technology Month in SCE consisted of 10 works including 8 from the 13th Extracurricular Science and Technology Innovation Competition for College Students, C40 machine-made sand large fluid concrete, and others from the 14th Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Contest campus selection.
The Science and Technology Month in SCE has been successfully held for 20 years, with the goal of cultivating students' creative and practical ability in all-round and multi-level ways, closely focusing on cultivating students' core skills in civil engineering disciplines. The SCE attached great importance to this activity with earnest and meticulous organization, and had also made an adequate preparation including the manpower and material resources. Specifically, more than 10 teachers worked on propositions for 3 weeks, and over 40 teachers participated in 8 weekend assessments, which made the topics valuable and improved the academic quality. And to make sure an high-level competition, all teachers and students participated in the dedicated planning to achieve a more reasonable proposition, more humane organization, more refined management and more professional publicity. This activity lasted 8 months and attracted1,159contestants from the three campuses of Xipu, Emei and Jiuli, and received a total of294structural design models and works. Eventually, 4 Grand Prizes, 22 First Prizes, 43 Second Prizes, 69 Third Prizes, and 8 Honorable Mentions were selected.
In this exciting and brilliant competition, the contestants carefully prepared and actively asked questions about the topic, adhering to the rigorous and serious attitude of the SCE students, whose works reflected their thinking and innovation of the competition topic, as well as their solid foundation and strong practical ability. The contestants from each team all gave the detailed introduction to their works based on the design ideas, structural calculations, and construction process with the demonstration of PPT, and also made emphatically calculations on the mechanics. Through these series of academic contests, the contestants will inevitably exercise their practical skills, enhance their understanding of professional knowledge, and at the same time deepen their awareness of engineering practice. More importantly, due to the team competition system, the students not only met partners in the team, but also improved their teamwork abilities. In order to ensure the success and fairness of this competition, the staff of the Science and Innovation Center also fulfilled their responsibilities and worked hard to serve the contestants.
In the nearly two months, there were many people contributing to this activity, not only the hard-working contestants, but also the arduous staff. The success of the Science and Technology Month in SCE is inseparable from the joint efforts of everyone. Certainly, this competition couldn’t be so excellent without the innovative and detailed topic from the teachers and the hard work of the students. In this promising era, our students in the wonderful and vigorous time of youth, working diligently and striving hard both for themselves and the competition, are surely the “New Youth” in the new era who are struggling to make a difference.
